Today was a public holiday and I had promised my little one that because the weather was going to be gorgeous we would spend the day at Green Point Park. The only problem was, I had woken up with a delightful bout of flu – lovely. As I crawled out of bed with a hoarse throat and pounding headache my daughters’ dreams for the day went sailing out of the window.
I could see she was devastated, so we made a deal. I was going to medicate myself and crawl back into bed to try and gather some strength, she was going to play quietly while I did.
She was brilliant! No arguing, no whining, she even tucked me in and made sure my hot water bottle was nestled against my back.
Needless to say we went to the park – it was truly the best thing we could have done.
There is a particular energy linked to playgrounds. Everywhere you looked kids were running and jumping and climbing on every square inch of equipment. Teeny small people to larger kids, they were playing, and so were their parents! Babies attempting their first steps, toddlers hanging off ropes and teenagers looking very cool until they hit the swings – whooping for joy like 2 year old’s.
After weeks of battling with my daughter’s school, battling with myself, straining against the way things have become, I was suddenly immersed in the way they were meant to be.
Sunshine, laughter, peace, fun and freedom all tangled together in a ball of utter joy. How foolish we have all become in our march towards better technology and a more civilized society.
No striving, no machinations, no backbiting, no lies.
By the end of the day I was feeling exhausted, but far healthier than when I came down.
I was reminded again today that it takes very little to experience absolute beauty and freedom. Â No DVD’s, no PSP’s, no computers, no cell phones, no meetings, no schedules, no expectations.
A little sunshine, and a playful heart – Perfection!  Just as Nature Intended…
